About Me

Anika Munshi, LPC

I’m Anika Munshi, Licensed Professional Counselor, Author, Educator, and Doctoral student in Counselor Education and Supervision. I also hold a master’s degree in Islamic Studies, and much of my work lives at the intersection of psychology, religion, development, and the realities of Muslim life in America.

For nearly two decades, I’ve worked with Muslim communities through counseling, education, youth work, public speaking, and facilitated conversations. Over time, I became increasingly interested in the questions that don’t fit neatly inside therapy rooms or traditional religious spaces: How do we mature without losing ourselves? How do we distinguish inherited beliefs from convictions we have actually examined? What happens when religious ideals collide with family systems, gender, culture, power, or lived reality? And how do we engage those tensions without abandoning either faith or critical thought?

My work is deeply informed by systems thinking, human development, differentiation, and the belief that maturity requires more than simply learning the “right” answers. It requires the capacity to tolerate complexity, question assumptions, take responsibility, and develop a faith and identity that can withstand real life.

I’m the author of Adult Children of Spiritually Immature Parents and the founder of Sukoon Circles, a contemporary Muslim space for thoughtful conversation about faith, psychology, relationships, culture, and modern life.

I’m less interested in telling people what to think than in helping us become better at thinking, about ourselves, our traditions, and the systems we inherit.
